Chronotons

How would you rate yourself with your level of nerd? This is not to put anyone in a box but rather to help you understand who you are as an out-of-the-box thinker. We all have certain level of Nerdatonium in our blood that makes us the unique people that we are.
Here are the levels that we do know about. Levy classified them in order to understand how people think as nerds. The three he mentioned are below.
Where you do rate yourself?

Class Five Nerd
You like ideas, but don’t always have to share them.
You might choose a physical activity over a mental one most of the time.
You have smarts, but don’t really want to be associated with other thinkers.
You are very comfortable in a social setting.
Class Three Nerd
You are comfortable being a listener, but will share ideas freely.
You choose an activity that suits your needs at any given time.
You don’t have a problem being seen as a out-of-the-box thinker.
There are times you fit into a social setting and other times you can feel a bit awkward.

Class One Nerd
You like to share your ideas freely, even if others don’t seem interested.
You would rather do a mental activity over anything physical.
You are thinker and
 love to be around others like me most of the time, or by myself.
I can be rather awkward in a social setting at times.

If you ask me, I would love to say that I am a Class Three Nerd. However,
I tend to lean towards a 2.5 or a 2.0 in reality. Again, this is for your own self and something to think about as you interact with others. I think knowing how people think and interact with others helps you to be a little more patient and understanding of others around you.

Entry #8 The Theories of Time Travel

In the story, Chronolocity, my character, Levy Roarke experiences time travel. He is yanked from the present into the distant past by a time traveler who is doing a reimagining of history.

“No way!”  He looks at the box in his other hand.  He sets it down.  “Wait, hold it.”  Levy scoots back like the box is about to explode.  “This bag, this stuff…” He holds his head.

“It’s from an alternate time line?  Parallel universe?  Does it even really exist?  Am I going to explode by eating something that belongs in another reality?”

Tasty, but deadly.

Time travel has always interested me. What would happen if we did go back and visit the past? Or the future. Would anything I do effect the flow of time, or is it history going to happen whether I try to tamper with it or not?

Here are some incidents that I have seen in movies. Are the accurate or not?

Back to the Future: Marty knocks his father out of the way, thus becoming the object of his mother’s affections. He has to undo what he has done in order to not be erased from history.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: Captain Cisco’s favorite historical hero, Bell is killed when his crew accidentally travels back to the past. The captain knows story and assumes his role instead, maintaining the original time line for the most part.

The Time Machine: Dr. Alexander Hartdegen looses his wife to murder. He builds a time machine in order to go back and save her. When he does prevent her murder, she is shortly killed in another accident.

So, here are three theoretical outcomes of time travel:

  1. If you tamper with time, it could unravel all we know.
  2. Time can be altered without any life-changing effects.
  3. Destiny will not allow for any changes. It will self-correct if needed.

All of these are theories, but which one do you subscribe to?

Entry #7 Star Wars or Star Trek

Um, okay here is another place that Nerdists have been divided. You either like Star Trek or Star Wars. This is what I am hearing from the fans. It is assumed that you have to be in one universe of the other.

Why?

Seriously, why do we have to choose between the two? They are both great in their own right. There is such diversity between them that these two shows don’t complete with each other. What’s next, I will have to choose between Harry Potter, Narnia, or Lord of the Rings? I haven’t heard anything about voting for only one fantasy francize, so why is there even an issue.

Please don’t make me decide if I like Spiderman with Toby MacGuire or the Amazing Spiderman with Andrew Garfield. I enjoy them both for different reasons. It’s the same issue with Willy Wonka with Gene Wilder or Johnny Deep. I despised the idea of tampering with one of my top five favorite childhood movies of all time. However, they created something not to replace the classic, but came up with a whole new retelling.

My question again is why do we have to chose? Last time I checked, it was a free country where we have lots of great choices. This is the essence of diversity, right?

Uh, I have often heard that Nerds and Geeks are not the same thing. In fact if you have ever heard of Good Mythical Morning with Rhett and Link, they have who brought that age-old battle to a head.

 

 

Whoa, can’t we all just get along?

I decided to look both terms up.

There really isn’t a lot of difference so why is there any antagonism in the terms?

So, Nerdatonium is present in anyone who thinks, not matter what their designation might be. (Ah, well of course unless you have a Borg designation that is.)

Entry #5 For Nerds Written by a Nerd

For many years I struggled with finding my way in life. They say most guys are into sports, working on cars, and would rather be the strong silent type.When you aren’t into any of those sometimes you are made to feel less of a man.

However, I discovered Star Trek, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and a whole stream of super hero books, TV shows, etc. At first I enjoyed these with my brother and it was something we shared in common. Soon, thought, I found kids at school, a few, who we had this in common. Some of these guys, were the cool guys that I considered dudes who had it together. That is when I realized that there were other options of activities that I could enjoy and still be a young man.

As an adult I went to found nerds at work, school, and church. They were everywhere. Both of the stepsons and daughter attended academic decathlons or summits where Brainiacs showed up in droves. You could feel the brainpower and electric ideas humming in the room. It felt like home.

That is why I wanted to write a series about a boy like me who struggles to understand how is own mind works. I think Levy Roarke’s internal and external battles are our own. He represents a nerd who discovers how he fits into the world and can actually make history. I hope that this Chronolocity Hexatron (a six-sided molecular object) will help those who are nerds to understand their own uniqueness and that they are not alone in the world.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Entry #4 A Nerd’s Brand of Hero

I think inside all of us is a hero that wants a chance to do something great. You know, we all want to change the world in some way. Can you relate? What can a nerd to that compares with those who do great almost superhuman things?

In my novel, Chronolocity, our character, Levy finds out, a hero is someone who does not have to wear a cape. It is someone who may not be able to leap a building at a single bound, but the can stand up for those weaker than they are. Their real strength is that of character and conviction to do what is right.

The best heroes aren’t perfect. They have flaws, make mistakes, and even find what brainpower and brainpower gives out, however, they get up again. Levy had an opportunity to help a fellow nerd, but chose rather to ignore his plead. He has regrets and wishes he had made a better choice.

Are you a deep thinker or a quick thinker? Are you creative and see designs in everything? Are you a manager of fine details or do you see the big picture? These are abilities that you might have that are needed right now.

I really think the difference between a hero and a villain is their strength of character. They might not always make right choices, but the best heroes grow and learn from their mistakes. They give all they have to be all they can to help all who need their help. Isn’t that what makes a hero a hero?
