Okay, right off I am a superhero fan. Spiderman is my favorite hero because is an everyday man, doesn’t have a lot, but he has these superpowers thrust upon him. Talk about a hero for the underdog, right?

I am excited about the influx of superhero movies that have hit us in a great deluge. Marvel has really lived up to its name. I never was an Avengers fan, but now I have been introduced to the universe. I am hooked.

I grew up with DC and the Justice League. I knew Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Women, etc. very well. I think it will take a while, however, the Justice League will have its time in the sun as well.

In Chronolocity: Fistful of Chronotons, Levy Roarke has a hero complex. He relates more with Iron Man because of his mechanical abilities. Levy is used to fighting his battles alone, but that all changes when he meets a group of historical figures as children. They have all been taken from their particular time in order to reboot history. This forces an seven year old, Thomas Edison, an eight year old Martin Luther King Jr., and a fourteen-year old Albert Einstein to become part of Levy’s own superhero line up in order to save history.

Levy squints. “Has anyone ever shown you how dangerous it is to be selfish?”
“What?” Tom mutters.
Levy waves that one off. “Okay, bad choice of words. You’re just thinking about yourself.”
“Hey!”
Junior pats Tom’s shoulder. “We are a team, right?”
Tom smiles weakly.
Junior puts and hand on both of their shoulders. “You can trust that Levy knows what he is doing. Listen to him.”

Being a loner and a bit untrusting of others, Levy often takes on his hero duties on his own.Faced with a greater challenge than he had before, they become a team of heroes who want to save history from unraveling. It is a daunting and probably impossible task for one twelve-year-old boy, but when the combine forces, they have a greater chance to take on the monumental task ahead.

Every hero needs a team. They become more than the sum of their parts. Superman, no matter how powerful he is, does have a weakness that can destroy him. The others0 on his team can fight when he can’t and are strong when he isn’t. So, everyone needs to be part of a team.

Long live the superhero age! I hope we will enjoy their adventures for years to come.

Who is your superhero and why do you relate to them?

Um, okay here is another place that Nerdists have been divided. You either like Star Trek or Star Wars. This is what I am hearing from the fans. It is assumed that you have to be in one universe of the other.

Why?

Seriously, why do we have to choose between the two? They are both great in their own right. There is such diversity between them that these two shows don’t complete with each other. What’s next, I will have to choose between Harry Potter, Narnia, or Lord of the Rings? I haven’t heard anything about voting for only one fantasy francize, so why is there even an issue.

Please don’t make me decide if I like Spiderman with Toby MacGuire or the Amazing Spiderman with Andrew Garfield. I enjoy them both for different reasons. It’s the same issue with Willy Wonka with Gene Wilder or Johnny Deep. I despised the idea of tampering with one of my top five favorite childhood movies of all time. However, they created something not to replace the classic, but came up with a whole new retelling.

My question again is why do we have to chose? Last time I checked, it was a free country where we have lots of great choices. This is the essence of diversity, right?

May the force be with you and live long and prosper.

Rhet and Link

Rhet and Link

Uh, I have often heard that Nerds and Geeks are not the same thing. In fact if you have ever heard of Good Mythical Morning with Rhett and Link, they have who brought that age-old battle to a head.

Whoa, can’t we all just get along?

I decided to look both terms up.

nerd

nərd/

  • a foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious.

“one of those nerds who never asked a girl to dance”

synonyms:

bore; More

  • a single-minded expert in a particular technical field.

“a computer nerd”

geek

ɡēk/

noun

informal

  • 1.

an unfashionable or socially inept person.

  • 2.

a carnival performer who performs wild acts.

verb

  • 1.

“we all geeked out for a bit and exchanged ICQ/MSN/AOL/website information”

There really isn’t a lot of difference so why is there any antagonism in the terms?

So, Nerdatonium is present in anyone who thinks, not matter what their designation might be. (Ah, well of course unless you have a Borg designation that is.)

You’ve heard of Oxygen, Nitrogen, Argon, Uranium, and even Einsteinium. Correct? These of course are part of the Periodic Table of Elements. But I bet you have never heard of Nerdatonium.

If we are part of the Realm of Nerdatonium, what does that term mean anyway? My character, twelve-year-old inventor Levy Roarke, coined the word Nerdatonium. This is his theory about how nerds stand out among what he called, “Normies,” or the everyday person.

It is an element present in all those who are considered nerds or nerdians. Instead of taking that as a put down they see it as his badge of honor. It makes them who they are.

“Yeah, I know I make up my own words but I think the elemental building block of a nerd being Nerdatonium is pretty cool in its own way.”

-Levy Roarke
Here is a snippet from Levy’s journal describing the term.

I am what you call a grunt on the food chain here at Bill Gates Charter. We all know the links on that chain. I am not only a Newbie, but a Class Three Nerd. Yep, I consider myself a moderate in Nerdom. Some dudes and dudettes can hide their nerdiness behind a sport or a cool instrument. Others like me can look cool but I will admit it’s what I say that puts me on the radar. All I need to do is hear someone mention a sci-fi classic or superhero flick and my mouth starts yabbering.

He classifies the five levels of Nerdatonium. Class One being the most potent and most recognizable kind of nerd and Class Five being the least amount present in an out-of-the box thinker. Levy classifies himself as a Class Three nerd. He can blend in as needed, but depending on the topic being discussed his nerdy ways surface.

I am not a Class One Nerd because I can fit in a social situation without embarrassing myself. I know some guys who are so smart, but they don’t get the clue when to stop talking. That’s some Brainiac’s curse: the social setting. It can be some people’s Kryptonite if you know what I mean. They think everyone, even the Normies, are totally into their idea, but sadly, that look of brain dead on their face is real. People don’t always get that smart guy or girl.

Chandler, who has been my bud since Elementary, is a five. Yeah, he has been trying to hide his brains behind humor and coolness for years. Let’s just say he has always been my social guru dude.

In my next entry we will look at ways of knowing what Class you might fall under. Remember this is not to put people in a box or stereotype them. This is rather a way to understand how others think and how they interact with others. This way you know how to talk to them, listen, and more patient with others quirks and eccentricities.

What are your thoughts about your Nerdatonium in your life?
